Penn State Elms Collection Artisan Line Rocking Chair
Product Description
This special handcrafted rocking chair created by renowned Pennsylvania artisan Tom Svec is the first piece of furniture in The Artisan Line of The Penn State Elms Collection. Designed to blend in both classic and modern interiors, this rocking chair is heirloom quality and built by hand with graceful curves and generous ergonomic seating. Each chair is numbered and signed by the artist and features the official Elms Collection brand.
Features
•All components, with the exception of the seat, are of laminated bentwood construction in book-matched pairs, where applicable.
•Steel screws are used where appropriate in the joinery and assembly of the chairs, covered by matching elm plugs.
•The front legs are joined to the rockers and arms using a mortise and tenon joint producing a clean-looking and strong connection.
•The six back slats are made from three laminations each and are designed to flex while the chair is in use, allowing them to move with the user.
•The finish consists of two or more coats of hand-rubbed tung oil, followed by one coat of sanding sealer (rubbed out) and one coat of catalyzed conversion varnish.

About the Artist For 30 years, artist Tom Svec has been hand crafting artistic and functional furniture from his Great Island, Pa., studio. His woodworking career took off when his work, especially his rocking chair, was lauded at the 1982 Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts. Ironically, Tom’s first spot at that Arts Festival was along the Mall under the famed Elm trees. Since then, Tom has created more than 300 rocking chairs from Pennsylvania hardwoods, which have stood the test of time. While not a Penn State grad himself, Tom says his mother, a 1938 Penn State alum, remembers fondly the beauty of the stately trees and is thrilled at the prospect of seeing those trees repurposed into design objects that will allow them to live on forever.
Standard delivery included with the Elms Collection furniture is curbside delivery. Curbside delivery means the common carrier will deliver the product to the customers curb. It is the responsibility of the customer to bring the item inside their house/apartment. The truck driver will not leave the furniture piece outside of your house without an authorized signature for standard delivery. The white glove delivery means the carrier will bring the furniture inside and place wherever you’d like, assemble if needed and remove the cardboard box and all packing materials. White Glove is an additional $150.
Note about Cleaning A damp cloth can be used to clean the rocking chair. No silicon or wax-based cleaning products should be used as they are not compatible with the piece’s finishes.
